About GITAM
GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, popularly known as GIMSR, was established in the year 2015. It is the first deemed medical college of Andhra Pradesh. The college campus has all the modern amenities conducive to student learning.
GIMSR Hospital was established a year before establishment of GITAM Institute, in the year 2014. At present, the institution has almost 600 undergraduate students and started PG Programmes from 2021-22 in 12 clinical and 2 para-clinical courses.
The medical college is a well-reputed college having strong academics and research linkages supported by multidisciplinary colleges in the GITAM (Deemed to be University) across the three campuses in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The Department of Anaesthesia is integral to the GITAM Hospital offering services in 20 advanced operating theatres covering various surgical specialties, including orthopedics, general surgery, and obstetrics. It focuses on advanced techniques like general and regional Anaesthesia and TIVA.
Each PG batch consists of 6 students, bringing the total number of PG students to 18. In addition to clinical services, the department of Anaesthesia is well equipped with the facilities such as museum, department Library and seminar hall.

Department of Dermatology offers excellence in clinical care, skin health education and research. It offers outpatient and inpatient services and treat conditions such as infections, infestations, papulo-squamous disorders, auto-immune diseases, blistering disorders, STDs, psycho-cutaneous, pre-malignant & malignant conditions with a specific mention of leprosy and HIV. Department of Emergency Medicine is a 13,000 sq.ft 24/7 facility having advanced technology and skilled professionals. It helps patients deliver rapid, high quality emergency care. It is designed for timely triage, stabilization, and intervention across all medical and surgical emergencies, while also serving as a teaching and training hub.

4. Department of General Medicine
Department of General Medicine is one of the most important department of any medical college. It serves a dual purpose: delivering high-quality patient care and providing comprehensive medical education and training to undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD in General Medicine) students.
The department trains residents in advanced clinical skills, diagnostics, evidence-based medicine, and multidisciplinary care. They are exposed to a variety of cases across multiple subspecialties such as cardiology, nephrology, neurology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, and endocrinology.
5. Department of General Surgery
Department of General Surgery offers a comprehensive range of both general and super specialty services. It has five specialized units, each led by experienced and dedicated Professors and Associate Professors, ensuring high standards of patient care, teaching, and research.13 well-equipped operating theaters are available. Each PG batch consists of 6 students, bringing the total number of PG students to 18.

6. Department of ENT
ENT department is one of the best departments to teach and train the UG medical students with all the latest advances. Initially, the department was run in the Health Centre at the GITAM campus. In 2014, it was shifted to GIMSR hospital now consists of 08 highly qualified and experienced teaching and surgical faculty.

GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences & Research PG Admission Process 2026-27
Admission to MD/MS courses at GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Visakhapatnam is based on NEET PG qualification and the applicable deemed university counselling process. Candidates seeking admission under Management or NRI categories need to complete the counselling and reporting formalities within the prescribed schedule.
Step 1: Qualify NEET PG
Candidates must appear for and qualify NEET PG as per the eligibility criteria prescribed for the respective admission year. A valid NEET PG rank is required to participate in the postgraduate medical counselling process.
Step 2: Register for MCC Counselling
Since GITAM is a deemed university, eligible candidates need to register for the MCC NEET PG counselling conducted for deemed universities. Candidates should carefully select the appropriate seat category and complete the registration within the prescribed timeline.
Step 3: Choice Filling and College Selection
During choice filling, candidates can select GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Visakhapatnam along with their preferred MD/MS specialities. Candidates should consider their NEET PG rank, branch preference, fee budget and previous counselling trends before arranging their choices.
Step 4: Seat Allotment
MCC conducts the counselling rounds and releases the seat allotment results. If GITAM is allotted to the candidate, they must download the allotment letter and follow the instructions regarding reporting and admission.
Step 5: Report to GITAM
Candidates who receive a seat at GITAM must report to the institute within the specified deadline. They need to complete the admission formalities, submit the required original documents and pay the applicable fees.
Step 6: Document Verification
The institute verifies the candidate's academic, NEET PG, MBBS registration and other admission documents. NRI/NRI-sponsored candidates must also provide the prescribed documents proving their NRI status, sponsorship and relationship with the candidate.
Step 7: Pay the Admission Fees
After successful document verification, candidates are required to pay the applicable tuition and other admission fees within the prescribed deadline to confirm their seat.
Step 8: Complete Admission and Join the Course
Once all formalities are completed, the candidate's admission is confirmed. The student can then join the allotted MD/MS programme and begin postgraduate medical training at GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences & Research

- Proof of the details of the payment of the fee
- ID proof - Copy of Aadhaar card & PAN card (Candidate and Parent)

In addition to the above, the candidates who have been allotted a seat under the NRI / NRI sponsored category must submit the following original documents at the time of reporting:
- Documents claiming that the sponsor is an NRI (Passport, Visa)
- Relationship of NRI with the candidate.
- Affidavit from the sponsor to sponsor the entire course fee of the candidate, duly Notarized.
- Embassy - certificate of the sponsor ( Certificate from the Consulate)
