While the college was established in 2018 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY),  All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri is still one of the most prestigious colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the newer AIIMS institutions in the country.
