Why Telangana is a Good Choice for MBBS?
Below are some of the major reasons as to why students consider Telangana as their preferred destination to study medicine.
- Open State for Management Quota Seats
- 25+ Private Medical Colleges in Telangana
- Excellent Patient Exposure Compared to Newly Established Colleges
- Well-Established Hospitals in Most of the Medical Colleges of Telangana
- Transparent Online Counselling
- Good Internship Opportunities
- MBBS budget ranging from approximately ₹70 lakh to ₹95 lakh.
Important Points to Look Before Participating in Telangana MBBS Counselling 2026-27
No doubt, Telangana is an excellent option for MBBS Admission, however students should also understand some major points before participating in the counselling process.
1. Telangana NEET UG Counselling Starts Late
Compared to Top MBBS States like Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana usually begins its counselling much later. By the time Telangana begins its Round 1 Counselling, several states have completed Round 2. Many good colleges in other states get already filled.
This is a major point to note before considering Telangana as your desired destination for MBBS. Team GMU advises students if Telangana is your first preference, your NEET score should ideally be around 470-500+ marks to stay on the safer side.
Students with lower scores should keep Telangana as one of multiple counselling options rather than depending solely on it. Therefore, careful planning is must before registering for Telangana MBBS Counselling 2026-27.
2. Choice Filling Strategy
After registration, candidates must fill and lock their preferred college and course. If you do not submit your choices, the counselling authority has no college preferences to consider for seat allotment. As a result, you may lose your opportunity to participate in that counselling cycle.
Students planning to keep Telangana as their backup option should look for other choices very carefully. If a college is allotted and the student does not report to the allotted institute, they may be removed from the counselling process, making them ineligible for further participation.
3. Upgradation is Allowed Till Mop-Up Round
Seat Upgradation is considered to a major advantage for students planning MBBS in Telangana. Students who are allotted a college in the initial rounds are not necessarily locked into that seat. If they are eligible and have filled higher preferences, they can still receive a better college in the subsequent rounds.
Know How Upgradation Works in Telangana MBBS Counselling
Telangana Counselling Process allows students to upgrade their allotted seat until Round 3. If a student receives a seat in Round 1, still he or she can participate in Round 2 for better college. If a student received a seat but is unsatisfied after Round 2, you can again be considered for an upgraded seat in Round 3, depending on availability of MBBS Seat and NEET Rank.
Students who receive an upgraded college automatically moves to the newly allotted institute, subject to counselling rules. This benefit provides candidates with multiple opportunities to secure a better medical college without losing their place in the counselling process.
4. Exit Rules in Telangana MBBS Counselling
Many students are unaware about the exit rules applicable in Telangana MBBS Counselling Process. There are some states that imposes strict restriction post admission, however Telangana allows students to exit the counselling even after taking admission, provided student follows a prescribed procedure.
Important Points related to Exit Rules
- Students are allowed to exit after admission under specified conditions.
- The counselling authority may impose a financial penalty while exiting.
- The penalty clause varies according to the counselling regulations.
- Before surrendering any seat, students should carefully read the official exit policy and understand the financial implications.
All these exit rules and important for every medical aspirant to be aware of so that they shall not face any penalty or future restrictions in their medical journey.
5. Common Mistakes Made During Choice Filling
Students fail to secure admission in a good medical college as they are unaware of the college due to which they make poor decision while filing their preferences. Many students assume an older medical college is always better to consider. A college located in Hyderabad shall definitely offer excellent clinical exposure. Every reputed institution offers similar academics.
In reality, this is not true. Several older colleges have comparatively low patient inflow despite their long history. In some institutions, only 100–200 patients visit the attached hospital daily. Such a limited patient load can significantly affect clinical learning during MBBS.
Clinical exposure is one of the most important aspects of medical education. Students who treat a larger number of patients gain better practical knowledge, stronger diagnostic skills, and greater confidence before entering internship.
Team Get My University Advises student to always check and evaluate a medical college based on:-
- Academics
- Hospital Patient Load
- Clinical Exposure
- Teaching Faculty
- Infrastructure
- Student Feedback
6. Mandatory Bank Guarantee in Telangana
Every medical aspirant who secures MBBS Admission in any of the private medical colleges of Telangana must submit a bank guarantee that must be equivalent to one year’s tuition fee.
Important Rules
- Bank Guarantee is equal to one year’s tuition fee
- Bank Guarantee must be submitted at the time of admission
- Guarantee must be renewed every year throughout MBBS Course
- During the final year, the amount is adjusted against the last year's tuition fee, subject to the applicable rules.
Paying a bank guarantee is an important condition to be fulfilled by every medical aspirant. Therefore, students must plan their finances accordingly.
