Below are the key steps involved in claiming the NRI category during the counselling process.
Step 1 - Selection of NRI Quota
At the time of MBBS Counselling 2026-27, a student must choose the NRI option to apply under this category. Every candidate who opted for NRI option in NEET UG application must again choose the NRI category while registering for counselling.

Step 5 - Discrepancy Found
If any document is missing, unclear, or does not meet the eligibility criteria, the authority records the discrepancy.
Step 6 - Notification to Candidate
The candidate is informed of the discrepancy via the counselling portal, SMS, email, or an official notification. Therefore, students are advised to regularly monitor the counselling portal to avoid missing any important details.
Step 7 - Correction Window
Candidates are allowed to upload corrected documents or rectify the discrepancies within the specified deadline. However, submitting necessary documents within the prescribed timeline is important.
Step 8 - Category Converted Online
After re-verification, the candidate's NRI category is either approved under the NRI category or converted to the General/Management category if the claim is found ineligible.
Step 9 - Eligible for NRI Choices
Candidates whose NRI claim is approved become eligible to participate in NRI quota choice filling and seat allotment.
Step 10 - Can Participate in Round 2 if Rejected in Round
