Northeastern Medical University (NEMC) is a private medical college located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. It was established in 1998 and has been affiliated with both Sylhet Medical University and previously Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). NEMC is fully accredited by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and appears on the World Directory of Medical Schools. Therefore, the MBBS degree awarded by NEMC is recognised internationally, making graduates eligible to obtain licensure or pursue postgraduate education outside of Bangladesh, even in countries such as India, through the eligibility requirements to take the FMGE/NExT examination.
The five-year MBBS degree program at NEMC is taught in English and students are required to complete a one-year internship at the college’s teaching hospital (Mahatma Gandhi Medical College) which contains 800 beds and is multi-specialty. This structure of an NEMC program gives students valuable experience in the field of medicine through numerous clinical exposure opportunities throughout the major specialties of internal medicine, surgery, pediatric medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and many more.
The NEMC campus located (in South Surma, Sylhet), comprises several acres of land, with modern buildings, well-equipped laboratories (and central library that contains textbooks, journals, and digital resources to facilitate study and research) plus a separate hostel for students along with facilities to support student life and learning - seminar rooms and lecture theatres.
